the first 24

So, we sort of decided mid-week that it would be really fun to participate in the 48 Hour Reading Challenge thingie. Participate unofficially. And participate sort of lazily. As in, I had no intention of losing sleep or anything. In fact, the thing that prompted my decision to even ask Rich and Annie if they wanted to do it was that I just really needed a break from life. Making myself more exhausted than normal was not part of the idea. :P

Anyway, we asked Ana and Chris if they would join us. But the lovely Ana has far more exciting things to do with her weekend. And I’ve been drooling enviously over all of them through her tumblr. :D  But Rich, Annie, and I were all excited that Chris could join us! :D  You awake yet, Chris? :P

Chris and Annie, of course, totally outlasted us aged folks last night. They made it into the wee hours—3:30 or 4:00. Me, I gave up a few minutes before midnight, and Rich made his goal of staying up past midnight. Just barely, I think.

Chris and Annie have also been kicking our butts reading-wise. Aside from the fact that Rich and I are too wimpy to stay up too late, yesterday afternoon/evening had us dealing with “kid problems,” and that’s putting it mildly. :(

Annie finished up one book she had started, started and finished two other complete books, and has started yet another. Rich finished up a book he had started, has read more of another book he had started (though wasn’t far in), and has started and made a huge dent in another. I finished up Ship Breaker (though I only had 50-some pages to go), read five chapters of 2001: A Space Odyssey (trying to be good—it’s for school), and started and just finished By the Time You Read This, I’ll Be Dead. Holy Crap…what a powerful book.

But no matter how much we get read, we’re having fun…and honestly that was my one and only goal.

I hate to jinx it, but so far the munchkins have been far more cooperative today…just hope it lasts. :)

Now, off for 24 more…
